In April of 1999, a discovery of world-class crystallized orpiment occured during a fresh blast at Twin Creeks Mine, 40 miles northeast of Winnemucca. Originally named aurapigmentum, latin for "gold pain", opriment is a specimen-quality mineral. Until the Nevada discovery, the highest quality crystals known were from Peru and China. Rough-cut opal donated to the Humboldt Museum by Keith Hodson, owner fo the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine in Virgin Valley, Nevada. The arrowhead collection was donated in memory of Dora De Anderson, at the request of Rodger L. Anderson. The 1910 Calendar plate was a promotional item from the E. Rhinehart Company of Golconda, Nevada (main store in Winnemucca). |
